Vancouver, located in the southwest corner of the mainland of the province of British Columbia, is the 3rd largest city in Canada. Often called Canada's Gateway to the Pacific Rim, Vancouver is one of the most scenic cities in the world. Ocean and mountains surround the city. Vancouver itself is a peninsula, at the tip of which is the 1000 acre Stanley Park.

As the western terminus of Canada's transcontinental highway and railways, Vancouver is one of the country's largest industrial centers. The Port of Vancouver is Canada's largest and most diversified port. Tourism is also a major industry. Vancouver is the starting point of many trips within British Columbia as well as the port of departure for most Alaskan cruise ships. The film industry is prominent in the city with Vancouver being the third largest firm production center in North America.

Vancouver City MapVancouver enjoys a maritime climate with mild winters and warm summers. Significant rain falls during the winter months, and snowfall is rare.

Vancouver's close association with its natural environment-water, beaches, forests, and mountains-is what makes the city attractive to many visitors. It is possible to ski in the morning, go sailing in the afternoon, and then attend the symphony in the evening. Vancouver has three professional sports teams: The BC Lions (football), the Vancouver Canucks (hockey), and the Vancouver Whitecaps (soccer).
